To Dare

WE'RE A
FAMILY
of wine

Our history dates back to the beginning of 20th century. If you want to be part of it, just tell us and we'll open Villota's doors for you.

"Villota is more than a wine estate. It's a landscape that inspires us to achieve our particular interpretation of a great wine."

Nine decades in the history of Rioja wine

1930

Ricardo Pérez Pérez, of Riojan ancestry, returns to Spain after several years in Chile, and settles in San Rafael Estate, at the meander of the Ebro river inn Laserna (Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa).

1945

His son, Ricardo Pérez Calvet, an agricultural engineer of a wide experience, takes responsability of the estate. Promotes and important recovery of the old vineyards and starts to make wine for self-consumption.

1973

In order to take profit from the grapes harvested in San Rafael estate, Ricardo Pérez Calvet and son Ricardo Pérez Villota, decide to create a winery together with Haro's wine group CVNE. From this alliance Viñedos del Contino is born, a name that soon became an icon

80's and 90's

Viñedos del Contino consolidates, firstly under the management of José Angel Madrazo Real de Asúa, later on lead by Ricardo Pérez Villota with the technical and winemaking management of Jesús Madrazo.

Present day

Since 2013, the Pérez Villotas disassociates from Viñedos del Contino to create the firm Viña del Lentisco, with the aim to make the Villota range of wines. In 2021, they start to work again with Jesús Madrazo, who joins Villota as the new winemaker.
